3 Things to Explore During Your Shopify Free Trial

Committing to a website platform is a big deal. You wouldn’t want to just dive in and purchase a plan not knowing what you’re getting yourself into.

What if you built your website and then found out that the platform doesn’t meet your needs? All that work building your website would go to waste.

So first, you should test drive platforms for your eCommerce website, like Shopify.

Here’s a list of 3 things you should explore in Shopify during the 14-day free trial, before handing over your credit card.

1. Themes

Shopify offers a variety of beautiful theme templates for you to choose from at the Shopify Theme Store.

A select few of them are free which is great if you’re just starting out and have a small budget. But you just may fall in love with a paid theme, because trust me, there are some gorgeous templates available!

You can test out all templates, even the paid ones, and if you don’t like it you don’t have to continue using it or buy it. They also allow you to view an example website to see if the theme is worth testing out. Each Shopify template’s main focus is eCommerce websites.

To help you decide on the template that’s right for you and your business, you need to think of the non-negotioables. What features are a MUST for your business?

Here are some things to consider when picking out your theme.

  • Do you plan to have a large inventory or just a small inventory? Some themes function better for bigger or smaller. You can find this out by clicking collections in the top left, and selecting either “Great for large inventories” or “Great for small inventories”

  • Do you want a minimalist style eCommerce website? Again, select “Minimalist style” under the collections menu

  • Do you plan to have a blog?

  • How do you want your navigation menu to display?

Just click through each of the templates and see what they look like. Each template offers a little bit of a different color theme. Of course you can change your colors, but the differences are in where the colors show up or how much color you want.

Whichever template you go with, doesn’t have to be what you stick with. You can either change things up with code, or switch templates later on when you outgrow the one you chose.

2. The Backend

Shopify is very user friendly. It may not be the most user friendly, but it’s definitely at the top of the list!

Shopify allows for a lot of flexibility, provides easy store maintenance and management (including inventory), and is fully hosted.

I know for me, one of the first things I like to do when testing out an eCommerce or blogging platform is to click on all the links and all the buttons to test out all the things. So take advantage of your 14 day free trial and play around with everything Shopify has to offer.

Check out what is shown to you in each of the sections on the left side, especially the Settings at the bottom. In Settings you will find loads more sections to help customize your online store including checkout process, taxes, shipping, and more.

Be sure to play around with each and every section and what it has to offer. Make sure that everything you need is available or at least possible to make available.

Shopify also allows you to connect to multiple sales channels including Facebook shop, Google Shopping, Shoppable Instagram, Pinterest, and so much more! To view the sales channels available to you, just click that little plus sign next to “Sales Channels”.

3. Apps

Along with the Shopify Theme Store, you also have access to the Shopify App Store.

Here you can find an endless list of apps to connect to your Shopify shop. Seriously, there’s like anything you can think of here.

Apps like connecting to your email, product reviews, comments, print on demand services, rewards programs, SEO image optimizers, and so so much more!

Definitely take some time during your free trial to look through everything available in the app store. This is what I think makes Shopify worth investing in. There are so many possibilities available to you to help you grow your online store faster than you can imagine!

You can sign up for your 14-day free trial of Shopify here. It doesn’t hurt to give it a try, it is free after all. If you don’t like it then you can end your trial. But you just may fall in love with all the flexibility and endless possibilities to grow your online business like wild fire.
